Job Summary 

The primary duty of the scale person is to weigh(scale) internal & External trucks in and out of Geneva Rock Products (GRP) aggregate pits and asphalt plants. To do so, scale personnel must obtain accurate information fromtruck drivers & enter it into our ticketing software to create tickets for customers, drivers, and the billing department. Help customers with locations of materials and communicate with team members. You will also perform work at the asphalt plant; scale team members are responsible for safely loading hot asphalt from the overhead silos into each truck.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  • Visualize, fulfill, and implement the company vision and core values.  

  • Sustain lean continuous improvement practices.   

  • Gather the required billing information from drivers, such as material, PO numbers, and delivery addresses, to create tickets for customers and GRP jobs.  

  • Complete credit card transactions for COD customers  

  • Communicate with drivers, customers, and team members in-person, through messaging apps, and over the phone 

  • Communicate with other scale team members, dispatchers, and sales teams to ensure correct orders go out.  

  • Open and close scale houses and lock any doors or windows.   

  • Uphold an insurable driving record. You may be required to travel to multiple locations in a day  

  • Keep scale house organized and clean and always ensure a safe and healthy work environment.  

  • Maintain a professional appearance in your attire and communication. 

  • Maintain Daily Tyfoom video training and participate in weekly toolbox training meetings. 

 

Additional Asphalt Scale Duties: 

  • Safely drop hot asphalt into trucks.  

  • Communicate with asphalt plant operators to adjust tonnages for internal and external customers.  

  • Communicate with the Lab Technicians for samples and questions about mix designs or issues.   

 

Education and/or Experience: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. 

  • Sitting: 90% of the time.  

  • Standing: 10% of the time. 

  • Wight lifted: Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. 

  • Physical Movement: It may frequently involve reaching, grabbing, and holding objects.  

  • Speaking / Listening: Scale team members need to communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, and drivers. They also need to be able to follow instructions and safety requirements.  

  • Working Conditions: Most of the time is spent in an air-conditioned office environment. Must be able to work long and irregular hours (early and late). 

  •  Position may be subject to layoff during slow season.  

  • Shift Work (Schedule): The schedule will vary based on demand. 9+ hour shifts, days, swings, weekends, or overnight shifts are highly possible. 

  • Scale personnel receive a daily callout informing them where to report to work the following day. 

  • Locations may include Utah, Juab, Salt Lake, Tooele, Davis, Weber, Morgan, and Box Elder counties. 

  • Drug Screening: Pre-employment drug testing and quarterly random drug tests are required. Geneva Rock has a zero-tolerance policy for the safety of customers and other team members.

  • Ability to resolve customer complaints regarding drivers and materials. 

  • Basic math skills 

  • Ability to work under pressure. 

  • Basic computer competency, including keyboard and 10-key skills
