Job Summary: Under the direction of the Assistant Shop Supervisor, the Shop Foreman will assist in directing daily repair shop activities, coordinating workflow, and maintaining a safe facility. You'll assist with managing the team, ensuring they complete tasks efficiently and safely while often participating in hands-on work. Being adaptable to work in various environments and the physical demands of the job.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visualize, fulfill, and implement the company vision and core values.
  • Assist in managing all shop employees, equipment, plant maintenance, and condition of facility. 
  • Assist in managing the completion of maintenance projects. 
  • Participate in setting and overseeing the achievement of performance standard goals. 
  • Schedule equipment for repair. 
  • Maintain tools as required to do the job.
  • Maintain commercial driver’s license (CDL) and department of transportation (DOT) medical card. (Candidates without one will still be considered.)
  • Operate forklift.
  • Review, understand, and adhere to all union contracts.
  • Maintain insurable driving record.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental requirements.
  • Responsible for supervising three or more team members
  • Track and manage work activities using E360 and Samsara systems to ensure accurate job documentation and operational oversight.
  • Manage service communications by carrying the shop phone, responding to service calls, and coordinating with other divisions to schedule and facilitate necessary repairs.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Two-year diesel mechanic certificate preferred.
  • Five to seven years experience at journeyman mechanic level.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Sitting/Standing: A mix of sitting (for supervisory or administrative tasks) and standing (while overseeing or participating in mechanical work). You’ll be moving between different types of tasks throughout the day.
  • Driving: 15% of the time
  • Weight lifted: Up to 50 pounds
  • Physical Movement: Frequent physical activity (kneeling, bending, lifting, etc.) is required. You'll need to be physically capable of performing repairs and lifting heavy objects, as well as helping in the field. Using hands to control tools and parts is essential, requiring fine motor skills, precision, and careful handling of delicate machinery or components.
  • Speaking / Listening: Needs to be able to communicate and coordinate effectively with clear communication, follow and provide instructions, ensure and understand safety requirements and compliance. Needs to be able to hear sounds and recognize difference between them as well as focus on one source of sound and ignore others. Good listening skills are important when discussing issues or troubleshooting with mechanics.
  • Working Conditions: Work will involve both outdoor and indoor environments, including work sites and repair shops, where you will face all weather conditions. As a foreman, you would be responsible for not only performing repairs but also supervising the use of potentially dangerous equipment. Safety and risk management will be critical aspects of your role. Exposure to hazardous equipment, situations, and conditions are possible. Exposure to noise from equipment, tools, and machinery will be a factor, as well as fluctuating lighting conditions depending on whether you're working inside the shop or at a field site.
